A. W. Tillinghast’s Design of the Alpine Country Club Golf Course

Real estate professional David Kushner of Cresskill, New Jersey, heads Paradigm Capital Group as president. David Kushner, also a philanthropist, outdoorsman, and golfer, has participated in charitable tournaments at Cresskill-area venues, including the Alpine Country Club.

Located in Demarest, New Jersey, the Alpine Country Club comprises 200 acres in northern Bergen County. Established nearly a century ago, the club offers a golf course that was designed by noted course architect A. W. Tillinghast.

In the first half of the 20th century, the “Golden Age” of golf course design, Tillinghast created a number of notable courses, including one he called “Aldecress” on the site of the present-day Alpine Country Club. This name honored the major communities that surround the course: Alpine, Demarest, and Cresskill.

Many golfers today refer to the club’s highly challenging course as a rare hidden gem. Recent years have seen the unfolding of a plan to restore the course to the designer’s original concept and preserve its environment.
