David Kushner would attend Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York
in the United States in the 20th century, enjoying a campus and academic
buildings which were established in the late 19th century. Holden
Observatory, von Ranke Library and the Tolley Administration building
along with Crouse College were all constructed in the late 1880’s,
comprising the Old Row style of campus organization which continues to
be the template of campus growth at Syracuse. Syracuse University
initiated one of the first architecture programs in the United States,
and created the first bachelor of fine arts degree in the United States.
The first post-graduate courses in Arts and Sciences began at Syracuse
in 1876. The doctoral program, School of Journalism, and Newhouse School
of Public Communications followed.

have been possible earlier in the university’s history. The years after
World War II did see Syracuse University of Syracuse, New York in the

over four hundred professors and graduate students engaged in
significant study and investigative research endeavors. A medical
research laboratory, a College of Human Ecology, the College of
Engineering and Bioengineering programs, and the SI Newhouse School of
Public Communications helped propel Syracuse University to membership in
the Association of American Universities, dedicated to a strong system
of academic research, in 1966.
